Activities play a very important part in the life of people who at College Fields. Generally, social activities take place in one of the two large communal rooms. Whether it is bingo, art, cookery or crafts it is up to the residents at their regular meetings with the activities team to decide what goes on.
Each resident is initially assessed to establish first of all whether we can meet their needs. Everyone prides themselves in giving not only technically correct care but also creating an environment where residents truly feel at home and that they, as they do, matter. After months of covid updates, I thought you would like to see something cheerful. Gerry one of our residents was a member of the Cardiff and Canton brass band from the age of 9 to 70. To celebrate this they came to play carols for him and all the residents just before Christmas. Once you have finished your visit we ask that you come straight down to reception and exit the building.

This video was recorded in the first days lock our lockdown back in March. We understand that it is lovely that you are sending items in to your loved ones but from today could you ensure that it is ESSENTIAL supplies only. We are hoping that this will be the final announcement that we need to make before Christmas and all the staff join me in wishing you as good a Christmas as possible in these strange times. We are all learning to live with this virus and thank you for your support and assistance in this. Visiting will still be on an appointment basis but the visits will now be able to be up to an hour in duration.
We are proud to be different from other care homes, and would love you to see that for yourself. The Manor always welcomes visitors, but if you would like to see what we have to offer, you can arrange to meet with the manager at your convenience. All the staff have been retained and the service to every resident will continue without any changes.

Within a week all the staff were in full PPE with masks, gloves and aprons or gowns. As the community events are ‘opening up’ there will inevitably be more community transmissions.

The excitement was a joy to behold and not only with residents but staff too. The day seemed like a step back to pre covid times with an activity that excited everyone. Hopefully, as a result of the vaccinations we will be able to have more events like this. If loved ones cannot make the visiting hours we are asking for, then special arrangements will need to be made. To do this please contact the Home Manager, Helen Randall who will accommodate your requests whenever she is able. We hope these new arrangements will be welcome news for everyone and keep your fingers crossed that more residents or staff don’t test positive and we have to revert to more difficult arrangements again.

During this period, we have not been able to revert to ‘normal’ visiting arrangements. Today’s news enables us to relax our arrangements so here are the new easier arrangements. There are no longer restrictions on the number of visitors visit per week, or the length of time of your visit.

You will then be asked to go directly to your loved ones room and will be unescorted. Whilst in the home you are required to wear a face mask but once in the residents room you will be able to remove the mask. We ask that you leave the bedroom window open and the door closed for the duration of your visit. In other words there are no changes for us with staff and visitors continuing to be tested and face covering still to be worn in the home. With the relaxation of recent Regulations we have risk assessed the situation and are today celebrating the fact that we are able to relax the use of face masks in the home.
As from Monday 14th March we are able to make the following changes in line with our latest guidance from the Welsh Government. With the incidence being so low we had hoped a relaxation would have been forthcoming at this time but we now hope that it will not be long before new more relaxed guidance will be forthcoming. Our kitchen staff have worked tirelessly to keep our high standards through the past two years and we are very grateful to them and proud of the whole team. It is a day of celebrations for us as Claire and her team have been inspected by the Environmental Health Department and we are delighted to say that we have again maintained our 5rating.

The rooms reflect the listed building status of the rest of the home. We are registered for three doubles in case partners wish to share. As of the end of October the prevalence of new cases locally is increasing daily which is of great concern to us.
